Mentana – The Frolics (Song)
Mentana revolves around the gravelly voice and breathless guitar of Robin-Joël Cool, an Acadian with an unconventional background, and the delicate piano and angelic voice of Viviane Audet. The rhythm section, composed of drummer Yannick Parent and bassist Erik West-Millette (West Trainz), moves languidly on some tracks and charges full steam ahead on others.
Mentana’s new show, which interweaves songs from the new French album (scheduled for release in fall 2025) with songs from previous albums, is a true epic! In addition to the songs, Robin-Joël shares his rich and delightful stories—and he has already confirmed his comedic talents with his character Stéphane in the series Temps de chien, broadcast on ICI Télé Radio-Canada.
Whether it’s the stories of his witch-accountant mother, his bohemian cowboy grandfather Sandy, his first St. Jean-Baptiste Day celebration at 15 with chickenpox on the Plains of Abraham, or that pivotal encounter with the great astronaut, Robin-Joël and Mentana bring to life a surprising musical adventure that is both touching and funny, a perfect blend of music and comedy.
