Description
The La Martre lighthouse, a jewel of the Gaspé coast, stands proudly on its natural promontory, a stone’s throw from the church, offering the originality of its octagonal wood-frame structure to the caress of the sun and the bite of the winds. On site, the Keeper’s House welcomes visitors, while the crier’s building offers public restrooms for passers-by. The site is designed to allow visitors to picnic while enjoying the interpretive trail and the breathtaking view. Several new features at the lighthouse this year including the Cabinet of Curiosities, the escape game in the keeper’s room, and an interpretive trail. Since January 2026, the La Martre lighthouse has been recognized as an iconic historic monument and designated a heritage lighthouse by Parks Canada because of its historical, architectural and community values.
