Inspiring portrait / Cap-Chat
Marie-Eve Godbout and Jérôme Landry
Passionate about their part of the country, Marie-Eve and Jérôme have certainly contributed to the influence of the town of Cap-Chat over the last 25 years.
Jérôme, originally from Cap-Chat, comes from a family of entrepreneurs. Since a young age, he has been involved in the tourism industry and developed a marked interest in this sector. Marie-Eve, originally from Bic, decided to officially settle in Cap-Chat at the end of her studies in Rimouski where she met Jérôme.
In 2001, the couple of high school teachers founded Valmont plein air with conviction, a small summer business dedicated to kayak rental. Over the years, they will build the Valmont that we know today: a company between sea and mountains that offers kayak rental, a restaurant, accommodation and a creamery. It is definitely a must for tourists, but also for the local population who like to gather there. After almost 20 years (and two beautiful daughters), they pass the baton to Vanessa and Olivier, already employed for several years. They act as mentors to them in order to facilitate and ensure the transfer of company values.
Upon sale, they retained the accommodation portion created in 2011 and continued to enhance the existing chalet offering by restoring “Airstream” trailers dedicated to rental.
Jérôme and Marie-Eve are so committed to the development of their region that they continue to invest, among other things, in the creation of a development committee which has great projects in store for the future of this small town.
