Snowpack profile
Every winter, the snowpack tells a story, shaped by each storm, each wind event, and each temperature change. It’s the story of the snowpack, shared with communities on the other side of the mountains.
In its Eastern chapter, State of the Snowpack (SOTS) bridges the gap between Avalanche Québec’s regional forecast and local snowpack knowledge shared by guides and avalanche professionals. Together, we provide the public with clear, accessible, and locally relevant snowpack information.
Our vision is simple: to reduce backcountry avalanche incidents through community connection, education, and knowledge sharing, helping more people make informed decisions and get home safely every day.
SOTS shares this knowledge through free community avalanche awareness events held in mountain towns across Canada. Join us this season to share the story of the snowpack in your community. The evenings, always free, will be divided into two parts: the first with a forecaster from Avalanche Québec focusing on snowpack, and the second with a guest speaker presenting a different topic each time.
