Fano Maddix + Abèle Kildir, sortie de résidence
Accompanied on stage by musician Abèle Kildir, Fano Maddix and her team come out of a week of residency at the Chapel to present extracts from their show in creation this Friday, September 13 at 7 p.m.
Fano Maddix is an Acadian storyteller from Moncton, New Brunswick. She continues the oral tradition by shining a contemporary light in the queer and ecofeminist cracks of Acadian folklore. Since her last show The Magic Bean, a sci-fi burlesque adaptation (2022), she has teamed up with transdisciplinary collaborators in her creation. Fano shares his tales in Quebec (FURIES, Rendez-vous des Grandes Gueules, Théâtre À tour de turn, Jos Violon International Story Festival), in Acadia (Congrès Mondial Acadien, Acadian Poetry Festival, Festival Parlures d’icittes) and in France (Taste of Languages Festival, Rendez-vous tales Fontenay). She has one foot in the world of storytelling and the other in that of contemporary performing arts. 10 years ago, Fano built himself a small house in Cap-au-Renard. Surrounded by her friends, she still lives there, with her dog Heidi.
Based in Montreal, non-binary composer and violinist Abèle Kildir centers her approach around instrumental music, live sound processing, field recording and the use of magnetic tapes and various lo-fi mediums. His music lies at the intersection of neoclassical, post-rock, ambient and even experimental genres. Its grainy textures and nostalgic melodies invite us to care, to confront, to breathe, and call for hope in a world falling into ruins. Her first album, Danse Flore, released in September 2023, is a reflection on mourning and an eclectic ode to the protection of the living. The musician is the founder of the instrumental post-rock group Except the Drones, for which she composes, performs and produces albums. She lends her musical practices with sensitivity to various art forms, from cinema to theater, including storytelling, poetry and dance.
